Deposit Funds: Remote Cheque Capture, Branch Deposits and Mobile Imaging on TD Business Central

Deposit Channel Overview

TD Business Central offers four deposit channels: remote cheque capture via desktop scanner, mobile cheque imaging through the TD business app, in-branch counter deposit and night deposit. Remote capture supports daily limits up to $250,000 for established commercial clients. Standard hold periods range from 1 to 4 business days depending on cheque amount and client history. Every deposit is tracked in real time through the dashboard with confirmation numbers and estimated availability dates.

Getting money into your account should be as fast as getting it out. TD Business Central deposit services give your team multiple channels to deposit cheques without visiting a branch — or with branch options when you need them. Remote capture. Mobile imaging. Night deposit. Choose the method that fits your workflow.

Remote Cheque Deposit Capture

Scan cheques from your office and deposit them without leaving your desk. Funds post to your account the same or next business day.

Remote deposit capture eliminates the daily trip to the branch. Connect a TWAIN-compatible desktop scanner to your workstation, scan the front and back of each cheque, and submit the deposit through the TD Business Central web interface. The entire process takes under two minutes per cheque.

The system performs automatic image quality validation. Blurry images, cropped edges and low-contrast scans are flagged instantly so you can rescan before submitting. Once accepted, the deposit receives a confirmation number and the estimated availability date appears immediately.

For businesses processing high volumes of cheques — property management firms, professional services practices, wholesale distributors — remote capture saves hours every week. A company depositing 40 cheques per day can process the entire batch in under 90 minutes from their office, compared to a 2-hour round trip to the branch.

The Payments Canada clearing rules govern how remote deposit images are exchanged between financial institutions. TD Business Central's image capture meets all specifications for resolution, compression and metadata required by the national clearing infrastructure.

Mobile Cheque Imaging

No scanner? No problem. The TD business banking mobile app includes cheque imaging. Point your phone camera at the cheque, capture front and back, confirm the amount and submit. Mobile deposits follow the same hold and availability schedule as desktop remote capture.

Mobile imaging is ideal for field staff, sales representatives and remote offices that receive occasional cheques. A construction project manager receiving a progress payment on site can deposit it immediately without waiting until they return to the head office. The deposit appears in the account summary within minutes.

Image quality requirements are the same across both channels. The MICR line, payee name, date, written amount and signature must all be clearly visible. Adequate lighting and a solid dark background behind the cheque produce the best results. The app provides real-time guidance — hold steady, move closer, adjust angle — to ensure a clean capture on the first attempt.

How to Deposit a Cheque Remotely in 4 Steps

From endorsement to confirmation, the remote deposit process takes under 5 minutes.

Step 1: Endorse the Cheque

Sign the back of the cheque. Write "For mobile deposit only" and your TD Business Central account number below your signature. This restrictive endorsement prevents the cheque from being deposited elsewhere. It is a simple but critical fraud prevention step required by the Bills of Exchange Act.

Step 2: Capture Front and Back Images

Open the TD Business Central mobile app or desktop scanner interface. Capture a clear, well-lit image of the front and back of the cheque. The system validates image quality automatically and flags any issues. Ensure the MICR line at the bottom is fully visible and the amount matches in both words and figures.

Step 3: Confirm Deposit Details

Enter the deposit amount. Select the destination account from your linked accounts list. Review the cheque images for clarity. The platform cross-references the entered amount against OCR-detected figures on the cheque face and alerts you if there is a discrepancy.

Step 4: Submit and Track

Submit the deposit. TD Business Central assigns a confirmation number and displays the estimated funds availability date. Track the deposit status — received, processing, cleared, or returned — in the Deposit History section of your dashboard. Set up an alert to be notified when the funds become available.

Deposit Methods and Clearing Times

Branch Counter and Night Deposit Options

When remote capture is not practical, branch-based deposit channels provide unlimited capacity.

Branch Counter Deposits

Walk into any TD branch with your business deposit. There are no per-cheque or daily dollar limits for branch counter deposits. The teller processes each item, provides a printed receipt and the deposit appears in your account summary within hours. For businesses depositing large single cheques — insurance settlements, real estate closings, government payments — branch deposit is the fastest path to availability.

Certified cheques and bank drafts deposited at the branch carry the shortest hold periods: same day or next business day availability. This matters when timing is critical for funding a time-sensitive payment or meeting a payroll deadline.

Night Deposit Service

Night deposit lets you drop sealed deposit bags at a TD branch outside of business hours. Ideal for retail businesses, restaurants and service companies that accumulate cash and cheques throughout the day. The branch processes your deposit the next business morning and posts it to your account.

Night deposit bags are tracked with unique serial numbers. Discrepancies between your declared amount and the branch count trigger an immediate notification and a reconciliation process. For high-volume cash businesses, night deposit combined with deposit confirmation alerts provides next-day visibility into your cash position.

Frequently Asked Questions About Depositing Funds

Standard hold periods for remote cheque deposits are 1 business day for cheques under $1,500 and up to 4 business days for cheques over $1,500. Established clients with strong deposit history may qualify for reduced hold periods. The hold period begins on the business day the deposit is submitted before the 8:00 PM ET cutoff. Deposits submitted after cutoff are processed on the next business day.

Default daily limits are $25,000 per cheque and $50,000 per day for desktop remote capture. Mobile imaging defaults to $10,000 per cheque and $25,000 per day. Higher limits up to $250,000 per day are available for established commercial clients upon request. Contact your TD commercial banking advisor or call 1-866-222-3456 to discuss a limit increase.

Cheque images must be captured at a minimum resolution of 200 DPI. Both front and back images are required. The MICR line, payee name, date, written amount, numeric amount and the drawer's signature must all be clearly legible. The system automatically rejects images that are blurry, cropped or have insufficient contrast. Use adequate lighting and a dark background for best results.

Availability depends on the deposit method and cheque amount. Branch counter deposits and remote captures of cheques under $1,500 are typically available next business day. Cheques over $1,500 may be held for up to 4 business days. Certified cheques and bank drafts deposited at a branch are available same day or next business day. The deposit confirmation screen always displays the estimated availability date.
